About the Role


Supporting the Technology That Powers Education

Play a hands-on role in keeping the technology that supports teaching and business operations running reliably every day. As a Systems Engineer, you will support the stability, security and performance of Box Hill Institute’s core data centre and hybrid infrastructure. Working across on premise and cloud connected platforms, this role provides practical operational support across compute, storage, virtualisation and enterprise backup and recovery environments, including Veeam. You will be part of the IT Infrastructure Services team, supporting a hybrid environment that spans traditional data centre technologies and platforms such as Microsoft Azure and Microsoft Entra ID, while working closely with internal teams and external vendors across a multi-campus environment.

What you’ll be responsible for

  • Operate, maintain and optimise on-premise compute, storage, HCI and virtualisation platforms to ensure health, capacity, availability and performance
  • Support hybrid infrastructure environments, integrating on-premise platforms with cloud-connected services including Microsoft Azure
  • Administer enterprise backup and recovery platforms, including Veeam, performing verification, restore testing and disaster recovery readiness
  • Support hybrid identity platforms, including Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID, monitoring platform health, authentication dependencies and integrations
  • Provide proactive infrastructure monitoring and remediation, technical support for incidents and changes, maintain asset and lifecycle records, develop documentation and collaborate with vendors and internal teams

What you’ll bring

  • Experience supporting enterprise data centre and hybrid infrastructure environments
  • Hands-on capability across compute, storage, virtualisation and enterprise backup platforms
  • Experience administering backup and recovery solutions, including Veeam or equivalent
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure infrastructure and hybrid identity platforms including Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID
  • Strong troubleshooting, documentation, analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to resolve infrastructure performance and availability issues in cross-functional teams

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Advanced Diploma or Degree in IT, Computer Science or equivalent experience, with certifications or equivalent experience across Azure, identity platforms, virtualisation, backup technologies and ITIL
  • Demonstrated experience supporting enterprise data centre environments including physical and virtual servers, enterprise storage and hyperconverged infrastructure across multi-site or distributed environments
  • Hands-on capability in backup, recovery and resilience practices, infrastructure monitoring, lifecycle management, technical documentation and working with vendors or managed service providers
